Gerry likes books and Michelle; Gerry’s brother Rocky likes ball games and Michelle; Michelle’s friend Tory likes Rocky. Alice has surprisingly well-developed views on on feminism, global warming and animal testing.

Meanwhile Michelle’s mum can’t open up emotionally since her husband left her and Tory’s mum is a drunk. Most of the teachers in the school led by Mrs McKlusky the headmistress are aggressively competing for caretaker Mr Eden’s attentions but he is only interested in Michelle’s mum.

Sometimes it’s tough being a five-year old. But it’s tougher being a grown-up.
