The Showstopper workshop programme

The Showstoppers offer a range of workshops catering to all levels of ability and experience, so whether you are an experienced improviser looking to enhance your skills or wanting to try musical improv for the first time, we will have the class for you.

Either sign up for one of our public workshops or get in touch to arrange a private workshop for your improv group / school / college / musical theatre society.

‘Thank you for the wonderful work that you did with our students, it was one of the funniest hours I have had at Mountview. The project really helped equip these students with new skills.’
Jacqui Somerville, Head of Acting and Musical Theatre, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts

Our public workshops include:

Introduction to improvised musical theatre – a one-off class to throw beginners in at the deep end, covering improvised group numbers with movement, solos and duets.

Intensive improvised musical theatre courses – either over five days or a long weekend, covering every aspect of the Showstopper method, culminating in a performance of a full-length improvised musical to an invited audience.

Specialist workshops such as Acting in improv, Singing in genre, Improvised comedy, for more experienced improvisers looking to hone particular skills.

“I went from absolute beginner in musical improv to taking part in a full performance in just 5 days! I am very grateful for the passionate and determined approach Showstoppers took to helping us learn and progress as much as we did… All in all, a thoroughly educational and fun experience!”  Matt Sparkes, intensive workshop participant January 2017

If you run an improv group or musical theatre society, or are a teacher in a school or university, you can contact us at workshops@theshowstoppers.org to arrange a private workshop for your colleagues / students. This could be one of our 3-hour introductory workshops, or a longer, more intensive course, depending on your time and budget. We offer workshops for both primary and secondary age school pupils.

“The showstoppers workshop was a wonderful challenge for our students…they were so keen to get up and create on their feet. Now all they want to do is make up songs!”     Helena Dix, Head of Voice, Southbank International School

“If you want to learn to improvise musical theatre, you can’t beat five days working with the best. The Showstoppers broke down our barriers and taught us to make things up in a way that was at once relaxed and exhilarating.”       Benjamin Dobson, intensive workshop participant January 2017
