The Emery family are devastated when the father of the family runs out on them. The mother decides to take all five children on a trip to her native Holland in the family van. They have many adventures while they explore their own ambivalent feelings about their father, about their mother’s refusal to face her feelings of betrayal and loss, about what family means. And then they accidentally drive their van into a lake and it all kicks off…
