Show 569: I Love Zoo – 9 May, Electric Theatre, Guildford

London Zoo, modern day

When London Zoo starts to struggle financially, unable to draw in the vast crowds it needs to fund itself, they consult the oldest member of staff: Brian, who has been zookeeper since 1855. The musical is a series of tales from his past, from the founding of the zoo, the death of the original visionary who founded it, the fire that nearly consumed it, the end of Brian’s relationship with his wife because of his obsession with the star exhibit, an orangutan.

By the end of the musical, having looked deep into their own souls, and all but given up hope of saving the zoo, a surprise visit from royalty gives them what they need…
